Hi, I’m Geraldine and I’m glad you’ve found me. As a fully qualified psychotherapist, I specialise in working with people affected by cancer. This may be people affected directly, their families, friends, or carers.
Whether that’s helping you create moments of calm on stressful days, using strategies that help you live in the moment and worry less about the future, or finding a new normal after cancer. Sadly, we can’t change your cancer, but it is possible to live a calmer and less stressful life despite your cancer experience.
I have over 20 years’ experience as a cancer nurse. In that time, I supported many people through a new diagnosis, the ensuing treatments, and the helped them make sense of this new world they found them selves in.
I trained a number of years ago to treat cancer patients with depression. Patients frequently told me that they had no complaints about their cancer treatment. But the cancer didn’t just affect their body. The ripples touched every area of their lives, and those aspects were so often left unexplored. I loved my job as a cancer nurse. However, I realised that I wanted to spend more time supporting people with the emotional aspects of their situation, and to help them make sense of what was going on. I offer counselling to adults whose life has been touched by cancer in any way.
I also spent many years as a hospice nurse, helping patients and their loved one’s cope with the challenges of dying and bereavement. I supported parents in helping children cope with the death of close family members and facilitated adult support groups. More recently I worked as a volunteer with CRUSE Bereavement, providing face to face counselling for adults. I offer bereavement counselling for adults regardless of the reasons or circumstances of a person’s death.
Sometimes people aren’t sure if counselling is the right thing for them. I offer a free no obligation 30-minute call, if you'd like to find out more. This gives you the opportunity to ask questions and for us to talk about the help I offer. It can help you to decide if counselling feels like the right thing for you now, before committing to paying for full sessions. You can get in touch by email, text or phone, by using the details on my contact page.
